Huzzah! The Harvest Moon is here!!

Greetings spellmaker readers!! The Autumn Equinox has arrived, and shortly thereafter, on September 26th, we will experience the wonderment and splendor that is the Harvest Moon. 🌚

Celebrated in Chinese culture with festivities and the serving of "mooncakes", immortalized in songs, such as the lyrical "Harvest Moon" by Neil Young, and cited in poetry and folklore, the Harvest Moon illuminates the night with a bright pumpkin glow. To me, it always seems the Earth is welcoming in the fall, and throwing hints at the fantastic show she is about to give us!!

The Harvest Moon is special because moonrise occurs much earlier than usual. The name is very apt, because this extra burst of illumination enabled farmers to work at bringing in the harvest just when the days began growing cooler and longer. In the northern most regions, this allows near constant light above.

The Earth may indeed laugh in flowers, but with the Harvest Moon, she installs gratitude for our sustenance, and hope that we can endure the long, deep cold of winter.

According to the Olde Farmers Almanac, the Harvest Moon is the full moon that falls closest to the Autumnal Equinox. The timing differs as the moon sees fit to move through the heavens, and this lunar event can fall anywhere from late September to early October.

Every year, as I gaze upon that beautiful rust colored moon, I genuinely do feel awash in feelings of gratitude for another fall to spend doing the things I love most, and remember that the glorious fall leaves teach me that change is inevitable, and that it can also indeed be a thing of beauty.

So, wherever you are, I hope you'll take a few minutes to look into the sky and observe the awesomeness of the Harvest full moon. I once read that the most important prayer we can make is to say "thank you". I am thankful for a space to write down my musings, and for all of you who take the time to read them.

May this Autumn season bring you prosperity, peace, and an abundance of love!!

In Service~
